The new Doom is making serious use of the newest video game console technology to ensure that your shotgun will not only kill demons, but also blow open their rib cages and splatter viscera all over you.
At its E3 2015 press conference, Bethesda fired off a new trailer for the fourth Doom game, which for some reason is just called Doom and not Doom 4. Regardless, this is very much a return to the franchise that helped make video games the violent, frightening boogeymen parents have worried about for decades.
The trailer suggests that the game will play faster than the slow-moving Doom 3, though it’s not fully a return to the speed of the older games. It’ll also pack arena multiplayer and a level editor so you can quickly and easily create and share your own Doom killstadiums.
That seems to be about the gist of it. There are demons; you kill them. But now we finally have the technology to drench Doom in the buckets of blood, bones and organs it deserves. Truly, the next generation of gaming has arrived.
