Remember when athletes had the most sought-after sneakers? Yeah, me neither. Today, the most hyped kicks are those that are endorsed by rappers. Adidas has Kanye West and Pharrell and the Jordan Brand has Drake. On the heels of his latest album Views debuting at Number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 200 list and having a record-setting 20 songs on the Hot 100, Drake teased images of his latest Air Jordan collaboration on Instagram.
The photos, which have since been taken down, showed an Air Jordan 6 Low that the rapper nicknamed the “Hot 100s.” The upper on the sneakers is almost entirely white, with the exception of a crimson Jumpman logo on the tongue. Through the clear outsole, you can see the album’s title with eyes dotted throughout the letters.
Through his record label, October’s Very Own (OVO), Drake has collaborated on other retro Jordans in the past, creating highly coveted versions (even Kevin Hart couldn’t get a pair) of the Jordan 10 and 12. (A size 11 of the 12s is currently selling for $5,000.) Those models had a similar monochromatic palette, but the Air Jordan 6 makes perfect sense for Drake, who proclaims himself the 6 God, a nod to his hometown of Toronto, which has the number in both of its area codes (416 and 647).
There are currently no details about when, or if, these sneakers will be available to anyone not named Drake.
