Sick days are about to reach a whole new level of weird.

Recent research says that drinking a little bit of whiskey can help relieve common cold symptoms.

“The alcohol dilates blood vessels a little bit, and that makes it easier for your mucus membranes to deal with the infection,” according to Dr. William Schaffner, chair of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, tells ABC News.

Oh, fuck yeah.

Schaffner recommends sipping on a hot toddy, a drink usually made of whiskey, honey, lemon juice and hot water, because the hot water can help relieve nasal congestion.

This probably goes without saying, but drinking whiskey won’t affect the virus itself. It’ll just provide some relief.

Keep in mind that alcohol dehydrates you, so if you’re going to tie a few on while you’re sick make sure you’re also chugging some water and/or Gatorade.
