This week, Shameless star Emmy Rossum became the latest actress to take on the gender pay gap in Hollywood. Talks to renew the Showtime dramedy for an eighth season were briefly put on hold while Rossum negotiated for a higher salary. She stars as Fiona Gallagher on show, currently in its seventh season.

William H. Macy, who plays Fiona’s deadbeat father, Frank Gallagher, recently renegotiated his own contract with Warner Brothers Television, scoring a big raise. Rossum felt she deserved a similar deal but requested to be paid even more per episode than her costar, since she’d been earning less than him for years. Macy voiced his support for her this week, telling TMZ, “She works as hard as I do. She deserves everything. The only thing I’ve got over Emmy Rossum is I’m better looking.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the salary standoff has now been resolved, although it’s unclear if Rossum will be earning more than Macy. The season finale of Shameless airs Sunday, and in a recent tweet, Rossum seemed to confirm the show will return next year. “Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I’m so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family! Back to work in May!”
