Virtual reality is going to be really good for two things: getting the crap scared out of you in horror games, and flying pretend spaceships.
Consider the video above evidence of the latter. It’s EVE: Valkyrie, a starship dogfighting game that uses a head-mounted display like the Oculus Rift or Sony’s Project Morpheus to let you look around the cockpit, key in on other fighters, and shout Luke Skywalker lines as you destroy them. Doesn’t it look fun? Now imagine using a VR headset and feeling like you’re actually there.
And yeah, that’s the voice of Katee Sackhoff you’re hearing, so if you’ve got some latent Battlestar Galactica fantasies of living life as Starbuck’s wingman, best get your wallet ready. It’s still unclear when exactly virtual reality will arrive in your living room, but there’s no longer any doubt that it’s happening soon.
