Netflix has been a budding source of daring original series for a few years now, but this summer the streaming service is launching what seems destined to be its strangest show yet: Sense8, a new sci-fi drama from Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix trilogy, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5).
The show will follow eight people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe who are “Sensates,” people who can sort of share each other’s brains. They see each other at odd times, feel sensations someone else in the group is feeling at that exact moment, and even mysteriously learn each other’s skills. It’s a trippy concept, but the trailer above reveals some very interesting visual ways to show it in action.
The 10-episode series will explore the links between the Sensates, while also giving us things like orgies and live births (yes, they filmed births for this show) on the route to some answers about what exactly these eight people are, and why someone or something is hunting them.
Sense8 arrives to expand our minds on June 5.
