Femme on Fire: April Bowlby:

After breaking through the ranks in 2005 in a string of appearances on high profile crime dramas CSI and CSI: New York, this week’s woman to watch found her calling as Alan Harper’s (obviously) better half, notably absent minded Kandi on CBS’ hit sitcom Two and a Half Men.

After a recurring role on How I Met Your Mother, our newest Femme on Fire landed a lead role as the sexy best friend on Lifetime’s legal dramedy Drop Dead Diva. Commanding the spotlight with a face no man could ever forget, April Bowlby stars as Stacy, the lead character Deb’s confidante, who must accept the reality that her gorgeous model friend has been reincarnated into a much more curvaceous body after an accident.

Taking a moment out to chat, April fills us in on the new season, Two and a Half Men, and her unexpected secret talent.

Playboy.com: Tell us about your character Stacy on Drop Dead Diva.

*Bowlby: *My character is Stacy Barrett and she plays the best friend to the main girl (Deb). She’s really supportive, almost kind of a cheerleader. It’s exciting!

Playboy.com: What would you say to our male audience is the best reason to watch the show?

*Bowlby: *Because I’m on it! [laughs]

Playboy.com: Funny enough we just interviewed the pre re-incarnated Deb, Brooke D’Orsay.

*Bowlby: *No way! She played Deb, I love her! (The two Debs) is a really tricky concept to explain.

Playboy.com: If you could sum up Stacy in three works, what would they be?

*Bowlby: *I would say Energetic. Naïve. Optimistic.

Playboy.com: What’s been your favorite storyline so far?

*Bowlby: *This season Kim Kardashian is going to guest star and together we create this new dessert called a piecake, it’s a pie and a cake baked together. With the help of Kim Kardashian’s character, Stacey ends up owning her own piecakery. I really like this storyline.

Playboy.com: Are you good in the kitchen in real life?

*Bowlby: *I am! I can bake but I can’t cook. I also make really good jam. Strawberry-Rubarb is my specialty just so you know [laughs].

Playboy.com: You’ve had a fair amount of guest stars on the show, who has been your favorite?

*Bowlby: *Jennifer Tilly was a terrific. She is just full of energy and adlibs. It’s a little overwhelming but she was so much fun. I love her voice. Patti Duke was really kind, Kathy Griffin was great. There are a lot of strong females on our show.

Playboy.com: What has been your favorite role you’ve played on television so far?

*Bowlby: *I got to play a crazy bitchy sister-in-law in a movie called From Prada to Nada, which was so much fun because it’s not my go-to. The character was so evil bit it was so much fun to play!

Playboy.com: What has been the most challenging?

*Bowlby: *I’d say Two and a Half Men was the most challenging. The payoff is amazing when you hit the right joke. It’s really intimidating to go out there and perform, but it is worth it.

Playboy.com: As a previous member of the cast, what did you think of everything that went down?

*Bowlby: *I feel everyone has their own ups and downs. I honestly have no idea what was going on at that time. Two and a Half Men recovered, and now Charlie (Sheen) has his own show and I think everyone’s happier. Maybe in a way it’s a good thing that is has happened.

Playboy.com: We’ve got a lightning round of questions for you, first thing that comes to mind.

What’s your favorite…?

Favorite City: Paris – it’s different than California and you can go summer or winter.

Drink: Mmmm, what do I like? [Laughs] It’s a toss-up between Pinot Grigio or Vodka Martini.

Shot: I don’t really do shots often but I’d have to say a really nice Tequila.

*Food: *Spaghetti & Meatballs!

Desert: A nice cool Ice Cream.

Pickup line: I was at a friend’s super bowl party and this guy was like “we should go on a date.”” So he picked me up, up the stairs, and exited the house. It was amazing.

Guilty pleasure song: Oh my god. No guy likes it….We Built This City by Starship.

Music you’ll dance to: Anything that has lyrics I know. Like if Radiohead is playing I’ll get up and dance…even though that’s music you shouldn’t dance to. [Laughs]

Secret Talent: I….knit. I’m an in-the-closet knitter.

Playboy.com: What do you have coming up?

*Bowlby: *I’m auditioning right now; I’m just looking for the next beautiful role for me.

Playboy.com: What was your first Playboy?

*Bowlby: *This is interesting, I must have been 12. My mom went to a garage sale and bought a bunch of old ‘60s Playboys and brought them home and gave them to me. So my friends came over and we all read Playboy.
