Finally, Women Are This Much Closer to Getting Their Own Viagra

Finally, Women Are This Much Closer to Getting Their Own Viagra:

While Viagra and over 25 other drugs designed to help men have sex are available on the pharma market, there’s still no drug specifically designed to help women in the bedroom. But after two failed attempts to get approved by the F.D.A, the female Viagra-like drug flibanserin might now have a fighting chance of helping women lower sexual dysfunction. Because it does exist for us too, guys.

A campaign pressuring the F.D.A to approve the drug has been started by Even The Score, a group advocating for women’s sexual health equality. It has already gotten over 40,000 signatures in an online petition. The campaign is also backed by the drug’s developer and accuses the F.D.A. of gender bias and of basically being old and dumb. The drug is up for discussion for a third time this week, but the F.D.A says the side effects are what’s stopping them from approving it.

The data proving viagra for women is beneficial is already there, the support for it is there, but I think it might be hard for women to admit that the drug might not be ready yet. The F.D.A. rejected the drug twice because side effects included sleepiness, dizziness and nausea, despite Sprout Pharmaceuticals, which now owns the drug, saying a new study demonstrates that the pill does not impair driving.

Women have come this far in advocating our right to have a drug like Viagra, so we should be able to wait a little longer to get the right drug that’s also safe.
