London Bridge is Falling Down (Literally) in the First ‘London Has Fallen’ Trailer

Though the quality is certainly debatable, I tend to love the audacity of films like Olympus Has Fallen. The subtleties of just how difficult it would be to pull of the film’s plot in real life fall by the wayside, and it’s just two hours of the highest possible stakes, explosions, and Gerard Butler shooting people.

In that spirit, a sequel is on the way, and the first trailer has just landed. In London Has Fallen, President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and his trusty Super Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Butler) are in London for the funeral of the British Prime Minister. Because the Prime Minister died somewhat mysteriously, and because the White House recently blew up, the event is under the tightest possible security. So, of course, terrorists are somehow able to blow it all to hell anyway, and it’s up to Gerard Butler to stop them. Again.

From the looks of the trailer, the second film is ready to give us just as much crazy disaster fun as the first. I’m looking forward to it, and I say that even as someone who almost laughed out loud when I realized what the brooding score underneath the footage was.

London Has Fallen arrives January 22, 2016.
