Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of the most pleasant movie surprises of 2015. It was sexy, ultra-violent and full of laughs. Plus, it featured the best use of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Freebird” in recent memory. Not in a movie, mind you, just the best use of “Freebird” in general.
The all-around awesomeness of the first flick means that anticipation is through the roof for the second installment: The Golden Circle. While we won’t see it until September, the first trailer was unleashed Monday night during The Late Late Show with James Corden. It kicks off with a couple of giant explosions, just so we know we’re in good hands.
This time around, Eggsy (Taron Egerton) is faced with a crisis after supervillains blow up Kingsman headquarters in both London and the English countryside. On a quest for revenge (in a shade of tuxedo jacket that not many men could pull off), Eggsy and Merlin (Mark Strong) must team up with the American superspy counterpart to Kingsman: Statesman. That’s where Channing Tatum and Pedro Pascal come in, cowboy hats on and guns blazing.
Plot aside, the trailer is a series of very quick peeks at what’s in store. However brief they are, though, these shots make the movie look action-packed. We’ve got cowboy spies, lingerie, whip fights, Frank Sinatra, Halle Berry, submarine cars and more. Plus, Julianne Moore gets to do her best take on a Bond villain, so there’s that.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives September 22.
