Music fans finally have the answer to what the Foo Fighter’s mysterious countdown clock on their website was leading up to. When it hit “zero,” Dave Ghrol revealed a surprise five-track EP titled Saint Cecilia.

Recorded during the two weekends at Austin City Limit’s festival at the Saint Cecilla Hotel, the EP is yes, a free download for fans to freak out over. But what to really take away from this suprise is the fact that it was meant to be given as a final “thank you” gift to fans after their last show of the tour in Paris on November 13.

But the band had to cancel the last leg of their Sonic Highways tour in Paris in the wake of the deadly attacks in the capital. So along with the incredible free download posted on their site and a link to donate to the victims of the attacks, Ghrol wrote a lengthy letter to his fans about the emotional tour, his Internet-viral leg injury and also paid tribute to those who died in the Paris attacks.

“Now, there is a new, hopeful intention that, even in the smallest way, perhaps these songs can bring a little light into this sometimes dark world,” he wrote. “To remind us that music is life, and that hope and healing go hand in hand with song. That much can never be taken away.”

I know — try not to shed a tear reading his letter while thinking about what happened to The Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris.
