What happens when you hothouse the Talking Heads on the west coast of Norway? Datarock, obviously. The duo—from Bergen, home of Annie, Kings of Convenience and Royksopp, among others—makes playful, up-tempo indietronica with churning, danceable rhythms heavily indebted to the Heads' Afropop obsessions. The inescapably catchy “Fa-Fa-Fa,” from their 2007 debut, took them from their quiet harbor town to international cult status after it was featured in ads for iPod and Coca-Cola as well as loads of video games, including FIFA '08, NBA Live '08 and NHL '08.

Now they’ve gone one step further with “True Stories,” their jumpy homage to David Byrne and company using just a string of Talking Heads song titles as the lyrics. The tune’s perfect balance of light melody and heavy rhythm is impressive, rivaling some of the best tracks by the actual Talking Heads. It's from the band's upcoming album, Red, out September 1.

As the band prepares to kick off its US tour on August 28th, we have two Datarock goodies for you. First we have an exclusive live video of “True Stories” from the band’s appearance at this year’s Hurricane Festival, showcasing the track-suited zaniness of their full-band stage show. And the icing on the cake is a free download of “True Stories.”
