Free Music Alert: Hope Sandoval
There’s something incredibly sultry about Hope Sandoval. She fronted the hushed slacker-psych-pop act Mazzy Star, whose cult hit “Fade Into You” became a staple of late nights and lazy afternoons. Unfortunately, since Mazzy Star imploded a decade ago, Hope has put out just one record with her current band the Warm Inventions—and that was in 2001. But now the drought is over, as there’s a new LP, Through the Devil Softly, coming in September.
There’s no need to wait until September to hear Hope’s voice, however, as we’ve got a preview track for free download. It’s called “Blanchard,” and it has all the trappings of the Paisley Underground sound she made famous: an ethereal high desert feel, swirling guitar lines bolstered by a slight twang, and her unmistakable sleepy vocals.
