The survival-horror subgenre has given us some of the definitive titles of video game history. Games like Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill masterfully capture the ambiance of classic horror cinema, and Friday the 13th: The Game seeks to do the same by distilling the movie’s horror into a multiplayer game, creepy Lakeside environment and all. According to a post on EGMNOW, it will arrive this year.
The game centers around one player as the indestructible titan Jason Voorhees and four other characters as the college-aged cannon fodder of the genre. A recharging warp power allows Jason to show up suddenly on different areas of the map. Horror movie characters seem to always have that show up suddenly super power, so this is a clever means to bridge that into a video game.
Be careful when he is close, because Jason will employ throwing knives, a long rebar spear and his trademark machete to dispatch the wayward youths. If you are on the victim team, you also need to look out for the idiotic decisions of your teammates. As is witnessed in this trailer, they are just as lethal in a car as Jason is in a forest.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Watch some gameplay footage above.
