Game of Thrones returns for its sixth year in a little more than a month, and after weeks of teasers and posters, today HBO finally gave us the first full trailer for the next chapter in the brutal fantasy drama.
Season 6 is going to be interesting, as it’s the first full season not directly based on the novels by George R.R. Martin (Martin is still trying to finish his sixth novel, which meant that parts of Season 5 were either made up by the show’s writers or adapted from material we haven’t read yet), and the trailer is predictably vague on details. Mostly we get to see the characters where we last left them. Tyrion is in the East, Daenerys is among the Dothraki again, Arya is newly blind, the Lannisters are plotting to take back power, the High Sparrow is plotting to overthrow Westeros and, yes, Jon Snow appears to still be just a corpse, though he’s a corpse who seems to be getting an awful lot of attention from other characters.
Oh, and it’s all set to a cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” which might be the apex of Moody Pop Song Covers in trailers.
Game of Thrones returns April 24.
