When the season finale of Game of Thrones airs this Sunday, you can bet that George R. R. Martin will be watching. A collective gasp shot across the internet yesterday, after it was revealed that the man who conjured the world we all love so much out of thin air, is too busy to bother with the show he helped birth. It was like finding out that Santa Claus doesn’t celebrate Christmas.

Rumors have persisted that Martin has at times clashed with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ handling of the source material, especially now that they’ve moved beyond the author’s books and are subsisting only on his broadest outlines. Maybe his shunning of the show was in protest? Or maybe he’s just too bus working on the spin-offs?

Well, As it turns out, Martin does watch the show and can’t remember saying that he doesn’t. The author told Entertainment Weekly that perhaps the original interview was “mangled in translation” and that while he’s behind on season 7, he “does watch the series.”

Hopefully he clears his DVR before Sunday’s supersized finale, because based on some newly released images, it’s setting up to be one of the most explosive episodes of Thrones ever.

While most of the images are your run-of-the-mill, unrevealing one-shots of characters brooding, there is one still that’s about as scintillating as it gets.

It features Cersei looking pissed, as The Mountain towers behind her. The scene likely takes place before we enter the Dragonpit, where we already know—based on the teaser—that most of the show’s central characters, including Jon Snow, will meet for a climactic all-star showdown. Also in attendance will be The Hound, which means that one of the most popular theories in the show’s history is likely to come true. That’s right, guys. On Sunday, Ser Gregor Clegane and The Hound will have deadliest family reunion in history in what’s become known as the Cleganebowl. Place your bets accordingly.
