CCP, the creator of the EVE universe, has been scoring major points with its last few initiatives. First there was the creation of Dust 514, a free-to-play MMO that takes place in the EVE universe, and now CCP has teamed up with Oculus Rift to create EVR, a virtual reality dogfighting demo.
Less than a year ago the Oculus Rift’s prototype won a Best of E3 nomination. Since then, Pamela Horton, along with the rest of the gaming world, has been waiting patiently for the affordable (approximately $300) headset to hit shelves.
At this year’s Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland, our Gamer Next Door had a chance to test out the headset (and game) in full VR mode. And yes, she was impressed.
“It is seriously one of the funniest and most immersive games I’ve ever played, and it was only a three-minute demo! I cannot even begin to express how fun and immersive this game is. I sincerely hope the Rift consumer version comes out soon with EVR as a full-scale game. I have never had a demo draw me in so fast!”
Unfortunately, the game is still in the demo stage, but with Oculus Rift ready to release in the near future (they still haven’t announced a release date), we’re sure EVR won’t be too far behind.
