Fear no Sunday blues this weekend: Nick Offerman will play a gay character for the first time in his career in this week’s episode of FOX’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. “I feel like I have a lot of the right ingredients to work the Tenderloin,” he says in this promo clip. “It’s a nice bucket-list item to get checked off.” (Ron Swanson would have grilled that tenderloin, but Offerman is referring here to the gay neighborhood in San Francisco.)

Offerman will play an ex-boyfriend of Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) and has a full beard to go with his trademark Parks and Recreation mustache. Wooden duck decoys figure into the plot; clearly Nick Offerman the Brooklyn bear is still Nick Offerman the wood craftsman.

Offerman has been super busy since Parks and Recreation ended in February after seven seasons on NBC. He is the lead voice on FXX’s Axe Cop and recurred on Adult Swim’s Childrens Hospital — both co-starring his wife, Megan Mullally — and he is recurring on FX’s Fargo.
