No matter what your feelings are on the Star Wars prequels, you have to respect the fact that George Lucas birthed the whole thing and gave us the first three movies, changing the face of cinema and pop culture forever. The Force Awakens is, of course, the first film that Lucas is not involved in, and people are dying to know: What are his feelings on it?

He recently sat down with Charlie Rose to discuss what it’s like seeing his creation in the hands of someone else. In this clip, Lucas offers a few increasingly painful analogies: a breakup, the dissolution of a family and, well, as he says, “I sold them to the white slavers that take these things and, uh… [laughs].”
