Glass walkways and overlooks are nothing new, after all, the skydeck in Chicago has been around since 1974. However, this brand new, glass-bottom walkway that recently opened in China is definitely a pretty phenomenal architectural achievement, but unfortunately, tourists got the scare of their lives after someone spotted a crack in the glass.
The u-shaped walkway is a little over 3,500 feet above ground, so we’re positive this is something no one wants to fall through.
A user of Weibo, China’s verison of Twitter, shared the picture of the cracked glass and claimed she felt her foot shake beneath her.
On Weibo she said:
A lot of people started to scream. I screamed out, ‘It cracked! It really cracked!’ and then I pushed the people in front of me so that we could run out of the way.
Fortunately, a spokesperson was able to give an explanation and told People’s Daily Online that a someone had dropped a stainless steel mug, which cracked the walkway, and insisted the public wasn’t in any danger.
Because of the crack, the park closed for repairs until further notice. However, disregarding the terror-inducing crack, the glass skywalk is pretty cool and we’d definitely go see it if we were in China.
