Let’s be honest, Google’s location service is both scary and eerily convenient. And besides being awesome at predicting traffic, it can now help you know if you have to wait in line at your favorite restaurant. According to Food and Wine, a new Google Maps update can tell you how crowded a restaurant is. Using a complex algorithim based on location services and proximity to other users, Google is able to estimate waiting times based on past data.

However, the new feature is not exactly perfect yet. As the support page for the update says, “Popularity for any given hour is shown relative to the typical peak popularity for the business for the week.”

So don’t get too worried about the privacy ethics of using this new update. After all, most of us would compromise our civil liberties to make dining more convenient.
