Another week, another round of movie trailers. Most of the attention right now is on X-Men: Apocalypse, but it’s definitely not the only new preview to get excited about. We’ve also got looks at a buddy cop comedy starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan, even more footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the kung-fu awesomeness of the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel.
Check out all that and more of the week’s hottest trailers below.
THE NICE GUYS
As the writer of Lethal Weapon, Shane Black practically invented the buddy cop comedy as we know it today, and he’s since morphed it into really fun movies like Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Now, he’s mixing crime and laughs again with this film, in which Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe must reluctantly team up to find a missing girl with ties to the mob. The trailer’s really fun, but honestly you could just flash the words “Shane Black Crime Comedy” and there’s no way I wouldn’t go see that movie.
THE LEGEND OF TARZAN
Alexander Skarsgard got even more ripped than usual to star in this retelling of the Tarzan story from Harry Potter director David Yates. There’s not much in the way of a plot explanation, but it looks really pretty, and the supporting cast includes Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Djimon Honsou.
THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY
After proving himself thoroughly amusing in Kingsman: The Secret Service earlier this year, Mark Strong is trying action comedy once again, this time teaming up with Sacha Baron Cohen for a tale of two long-lost brothers who find each other. When they were kids, they were inseparable. Now…their respective lives are just a little different from one another.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS
Last year’s attempt at a TMNT movie reboot wasn’t exactly well received, but it did make money, so the sequel’s on the way. Honestly…it looks fun. Maybe I’m just saying that because this time around they packed in all the stuff from the cartoon that I really loved – Bebop and Rocksteady, Casey Jones, and the van that shoots manhole covers – but this time around it could be cool.
CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON: SWORD OF DESTINY
After 15 years, we’re returning to the Crouching Tiger worlds thanks to Netflix. Frankly, there’s almost no way this film can live up to the masterpiece status of its predecessor, but it’s got Michelle Yoeh and Donnie Yen being total kung-fu badasses, and that’s good enough for me.
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
We might not be getting any new domestic trailers for the most anticipated movie of the year, but the foreign trailers are still spilling new footage. Here’s the Chinese one, now with more of Han Solo being awesome.
