The Grateful Dead are known for two things: Doing drugs and playing music for people who were also on drugs. So it’s not surprising to hear a story about the band being on acid for a show. Unless that show happens to be a TV show, and they’re not the only ones high.

Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann went on Conan last night to promote his book Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams, and Drugs with the Grateful Dead, and he told a pretty interesting story about appearing on Hugh Hefner’s TV show Playboy After Dark while high on acid. And also all the crew was high, too.

Thanks to YouTube, we also have the ability to see the Grateful Dead’s performance. Granted, you probably can’t tell they’re high, because them being high is equivalent to a normal person going to work after getting Starbucks.

The 1960s were a pretty weird time.
