When a friend of mine was deployed to Iraq, I sent him a “Don’t Care Package” filled with useless junk, including some MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) I bought at an army surplus store (I even took the M&Ms out and ate them myself). I did this because I am an awful friend.
John “Chickie” Donohue, on the other hand, is a great friend. Back in the 1960s he traveled to war-ravaged Vietnam to hand deliver beer to his friends who were in the military.
It’s a pretty remarkable story, and certainly has to be one of the greatest beer runs in history.
(For the record, my friend knew the “Don’t Care Package” was a joke, and I sent a real care package a few days later.)
