Sometimes a Frankenstein’s monster is a beautiful thing, especially when it results in a doughnut being turned into a grilled cheese.

The geniuses at New York City-restaurant Clinton Hall teamed up with the Doughnut Project to create the Flamin’ Hot Doughnut Grilled Cheese. The concept might take a little getting used to, but don’t waste time over analyzing. This is one of those mashups that is so wrong it’s right.

Doughnuts have been the subject of much innovation in recent years, whether it was wrapping a hot dog, heading into space, or having an illicit affair with a croissaint. The grilled cheese doughnut would seem to be the next logical step.

The collaboration starts with a Habañero Glazed Bacon Doughnut, which even if you stopped there would be pretty awesome. But this is all about not “stopping there.” The doughnut is filled with mozzarella cheese and then suspended above a bowl of tomato soup, because as true connoisseurs know, no grilled cheese is complete without tomato soup.

While Clinton Hall is giving the people what they want with this bizarrely incredible invention, it isn’t giving them too much of it. The Flamin’ Hot Doughnut Grilled Cheese will only be around for one month—on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays—and only 20 of them will be made each day. So you might want to start camping out now.
