At this point, you kind of know what you’re going to get with Ken Block’s Gymkhana videos. And they’re still awesome. Because donuts. All the donuts. It would have been tough to find a more exotic and over-the-top locale than Dubai, where Block filmed Gymkhana Eight. So for the ninth installment of the series, Block took his 2016 Ford Focus RS RX to the more gritty destination of Buffalo, NY.

In some ways, the destination helps draw attention back to the driving itself. In previous Gymkhana videos, the location is as much a star as Block’s skills behind the wheel. For Gymkhana Nine, it’s all about hooning and tire slaying and not much else. That’s just fine with us. Don’t get it twisted. There are still plenty of harrowing stunts, like jumping over train tracks ahead of a speeding train and hanging the car’s ass completely over the edge of a river bank. But the feeling for a viewer is less “I want to go there” and more “I want to drive like that.”

The Focus RS RX that Block drives in the video is the exact same one he competes in on the FIA World Rallycross championship. This video represents the first time it has been driven on public roads instead of a racetrack.

Of course, next year marks the 10 anniversary of the Gymkhana series. So don’t be surprised if things get ratcheted back up again. We wouldn’t expect anything less from Block.
