Halsey released her second album, hopeless fountain kingdom, on June 2. In a new interview, the 22-year-old singer talked to Vulture about her new songs, the Romeo and Juliet-inspired music video she co-directed for “Now or Never,” and why she’s so open about her political beliefs. (She gave $100,000 to Planned Parenthood in January, spoke at their recent gala, and hopes to help the organization reach more young people on social media.) She doesn’t see any point to hiding her politics, because she has to deal with trolls and critics anyway. She told Vulture, “Everybody hates me anyway, so they might as well hate me for a reason.”

While Halsey may have a few haters, it’s pretty clear that lots of people love her, too—hopeless fountain kingdom is likely to hit number one on the next Billboard 200 albums chart, which comes out on Sunday. Life hasn’t been easy for the bipolar singer, but right now, being Halsey doesn’t seem so bad. In an Instagram post yesterday, she told her fans, “I hope you are loving Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, because for me life has never felt better.”

I start my day slow 🌴
