Right in the heart of Los Angeles lies a housing complex that will make of your Lord of the Rings hobbit dreams become a reality.

The Lawrence and Martha Joseph Residence and Apartments in Culver City are known as one of the most important examples of Storybook architecture in the city, and for good reason. Besides the fact that the exteriors of the Hobbit-like houses are incredibly whimsical, the interior makes them truly unique.

Carpenter and former Disney artist Lawrence Joseph designed both the main single-family residence and then two-story cottages with apartments inside. The homes come with stained glass windows, nautical kitchens, and a pond filled with turtles.

Made an L.A. Historic-Cultural Monument in 1996, it makes total sense that a Disney artist was the brain behind the design.
