Though The Simpsons may finally be ending its historic TV run soon, there’s still plenty for the show to accomplish, and much of it is tied to the annual “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween episodes. for the last quarter century, these shows have given us a new perspective on the Simpsons characters, delivering everything from vampire Mr. Burns to opening credit sequences designed by horror luminaries like Guillermo del Toro.
Because the show’s time may be limited, the events it pulls out during “Treehouse of Horror” from here on out could be especially important, and this October The Simpsons intends to deliver one of the most-anticipated moments in the show’s history: The death of Bart Simpson at the hands of longtime nemesis Sideshow Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammer).
Yes, during this year’s Halloween special it will finally happen. The crazy-haired madman will finally slay everyone’s favorite skateboarding underachiever, and though the show’s cast and crew aren’t revealing exactly how it will happen, showrunner Al Jean has teased that it will happen more than once.
“There’s a betting pool on the manner of death,” Jean told Entertainment Weekly. “What I’m going to say is: Everyone in the pool is going to win because he gets killed so many times.”
So, prepare yourselves for the long-anticipated Bart Simpson slaughter.
“Treehouse of Horror XXVI” airs October 25 on FOX.
