It’s been nearly a decade since Deadwood left HBO after three seasons, and a lot of fans of the show (myself included) still aren’t over it. For years, there was talk of a movie or two to wrap up the series, but they never materialized, and our hopes of seeing more of Ian McShane’s hard-drinking, foul-mouthed Al Swearengen are pretty much dead.

McShane might not ever be back on Deadwood, but he will be back on HBO next year. Entertainment Weekly reports that he’s been cast in the upcoming sixth season of fantasy hit Game of Thrones. McShane’s exact role has not been revealed, so he could show up anymore, but EW’s report notes that he’ll have a role of “key importance.”

Personally, I’m just hoping that whatever McShane’s doing in the show will involved copious amounts of profanity.
