Study Uncovers Ideal Number of Sexual Partners for Your Inevitable ‘Number’ Talk

Study Uncovers Ideal Number of Sexual Partners for Your Inevitable ‘Number’ Talk:

Ah yes, the numbers game: the dodgiest, shakiest, most oddball relationship Q&A. It’s inevitable, a crucial point in any relationship. When your significant other asks how many sexual partners you’ve had, it’s a bit stressful, especially in the early days of a relationship, when everything from morning coffee to evening whiskey tastes better. You simultaneously worry that your number is too high and strangely low. However, nothing compares to the stress of you asking the question, because you don’t know what sort of emotions will come in the fallout. So, given this universal terror, a recent study (from IllicitEncounters.com, no less) aimed to uncover the “right” answer, so to speak.

It’s ten.

Ten sexual partners is the ideal answer to that loaded question, as it’s largely considered “neither too hot nor too cold.” Between 8 and 12 partners was the most popular response (38 percent of women, 37 percent of men), with the survey questioning more than 1,000 people.

In theory, you totally understand that most individuals have a sexual past once they get into their 20s, and each sexual past is entirely different. In reality, though, you probably have a ballpark of what you think is too high. To some, it might still be a single-digit number. To others, it’s a double-digit figure. To a few, it’s triple digits. To Wilt Chamberlain and Mick Jagger, it’s likely a number we haven’t even invented yet.

If you’re wondering what the general consensus is for definitely too high, according to the survey, it’s 20.
