Ten years ago, Russian model Irina Shayk was discovered by the lingerie brand Intimissimi. Since then, she has been featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and Harper’s Bazaar, modeled for Victoria’s Secret, and been named an international spokesperson for L’Oreal Paris. Shayk, now 31, is working with Intimissimi again, and she talked to W magazine about how her life has changed in the past decade.
According to Shayk, when she first started modeling, she felt much less confident. “To be in front of the camera wearing lingerie, it’s not easy no matter what size dress you wear,” she said, adding that working with the Italian lingerie company helped her become more comfortable in her own skin. “I learned about my body, and I learned about myself.”
Shayk believes every woman is sensual in her own way. “It is not red lips, push-up bra and high-heels,” she told W, “It is some spiciness that you have inside. You can be sexy in conversation, you know? It is a charisma, it is part of your character—that what is really sexy to me.” Her latest Intimissimi campaign was shot by Mario Testino, and this clip of her casually sipping an iced coffee captures her natural beauty:
Shayk said she often finds herself admiring women who celebrate their bodies by showing them off. “When you are walking down the street in New York, you always see these sexy ladies and they are wearing these little shorts, t-shirt, and lipstick, and I’m like, oh my god, that’s amazing.”
Many of the photos Shayk shares on Instagram are from her professional modeling portfolio, but once in a while, she celebrates her own body with a selfie. On the beach or in the mirror, she doesn’t need makeup (or clothes) to look amazing:
