Aerie model Iskra Lawrence wants everyone to feel comfortable in their own skin, so in a new YouTube video, she stripped down to her underwear on a New York City subway train and spoke to her fellow passengers about self-esteem. In the video, the curvy blonde says, “I grew up hating what I saw in the mirror, because society told me I was not good enough. I thought there was something wrong because I didn’t have a thigh gap, that I had cellulite, that I wasn’t skinny enough.”
Standing proudly at the center of the train car, she explains her reasons for undressing. “What I really hope by sharing this with you today is that you are going to see yourself differently. Every single one of us has so much value and so much worth that is so much more than just skin.”
Iskra tells the people around her, “When you look in the mirror when you get home, do not pick out your insecurities.” Instead, she urges, “Start celebrating who you are and respecting that.” During Iskra’s speech, most of the other passengers seem to be tuning her out — that’s just what you do when someone starts shouting on the subway — but at the end, they give her a round of applause.
When she’s not taking her clothes off on public transportation, Iskra often shares photos of herself on Instagram:
