After widespread speculation, FBI Director James Comey finally confirmed that the FBI is in the midst of investigating whether or not certain members of Trump’s presidential campaign colluded with Russia to interfere with the 2016 election.

“That includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts,“ Comey said during his Monday testimony before congress.

But before you start planning your Trump impeachment hearing parties (drink every time he says “FAKE NEWS!”) keep in mind that investigations of this nature are far-reaching, and tend to be long, drawn-out affairs (it was two whole years between the day Nixon’s cronies broke into the DNC and the day he resigned as President). Comey for one, abstained from revealing any major details or findings, and warned Congress that he wouldn’t be able to comment on most aspects of the investigation due to its classified nature. He did say that the investigation has been ongoing since July, which had some Hillary Clinton supporters seeing red.

Later in the hearing, Comey confirmed what many in Congress already knew to be true: He said that he has “no information that supports" Trump’s now infamous tweetsorm in which he accused former President Obama of ordering surveillance of Trump Tower during the campaign. It was a humiliating moment for the Commander in Chief, who was basically called a liar by one of the country’s top intelligence officials.

It’s no wonder the POTUS woke up with an extra shot of paranoia in his coffee. Prior to the hearing, he unleashed a series of bizarre tweets that were clearly written by a man who can feel the walls closing in. “James Clapper and others stated that there is no evidence POTUS colluded with Russia. This story is FAKE NEWS and everyone knows it!” he wrote. Trump also doubled down on his frequent assertion that the real story is not Russian collusion, but the leaking of classified information. “Must find leaker now!” he urged.

But the more Trump flails away on social media, the more his words fall on deaf ears. While it may be some time before we find out whether or not his people colluded with Russia, his days of blatantly lying to the American public and not being called out for it may have ended today.
