Before Game of Thrones made unexpectedly killing off long-running characters normal, Seinfeld had one of the greatest, and surprising deaths of a long-running character in the history of television. Sure, some may have knowns George Costanza wasn’t going to marry his girlfriend and eventual fiancé Susan Biddle Ross, but no one saw her death coming! Well… almost no one.
Yesterday, Jason Alexander told Howard Stern the real reason Susan was killed off of Seinfeld. According to Alexander, though he loved and adored her as a person, he hated working with Heidi Swedberg, the actress who played Susan. No real scandal, she was just terrible at performing comedy.
As you might have guessed, Jason wasn’t thrilled when Larry David informed him that George would be getting engaged to Susan during the seventh season of the show. According to Jason, none of the other actors knew how bad Swedberg was at comedy until one day when Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus both had an episode where they had a lot of material with Swedberg. Following the episode, Larry and the main cast members went to lunch were Julia said, “Don’t you just wanna kill her?” And the rest was history.
