Sentient Block of Sexy Granite Jason Statham has given us a lot of entertainment this year between twin box office hits Furious 7 and Spy, but as great as he’s been on the big screen, he’s been almost as much fun in interviews promoting these flicks. Just last week he was telling the world how game he is to be a “very different” James Bond, and now he’s tossed a few fightin’ words in the direction of Marvel Studios.
While discussing the kind of action filmmaking he prefers with Italian website I 400 Calci, Statham took a swipe at green screen-driven blockbusters in general, but the only name he threw out specifically was Marvel’s.
“I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they’ll put her on a green screen, and they’ll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action,” he said. “Anybody can do it.”
Those remarks are bad news for anyone hoping those reports that Statham would be joining Marvel’s Daredevil series were true, but if I have to sacrifice a Statham who’d be in superhero movies for a Statham who’s not afraid to lay down his own brand of law in interviews, I’ll take it in a heartbeat.
Now, let’s just sit back, relax, and wait for Robert Downey Jr.’s inevitable witty riposte.
