DC Doubles Down on R-Rated Animation with ‘Justice League Dark’

Those of you who are familiar with the trailblazing Batman: The Animated Series are already aware of the impact DC animation has had. Starting in the mid-1990s, the show gradually amplified the attitude that kids could be trusted with adult ideas; today, DC rules the animated superhero movie game.

Despite the tepid reception to the Batman: The Killing Joke adaptation, DC looks like it’s doubling down with this reworking of the cult-classic Justice League Dark comic book series. The team sports spooky favorites like Deadman, Swamp Thing and cancelled-live-action-hero-turned-animated-hero John Constantine. Naturally, Batman is also thrown into the mix because, well, he’s Batman. And with a voice cast that includes Rosario Dawson and Alfred Molina, Justice League Dark is likely to have a…well, a bright future.

Justice League Dark is due out on digital HD and Blu-Ray next year.
