In Sofia Coppola’s upcoming Southern potboiler The Beguiled, Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst play the repressed women of a civil war-era all-girls boarding school. When a mysterious wounded soldier (played by Colin Farrell) shows up at their door, their repressed sexuality is suddenly awakened.

When the camera was rolling, Fanning and Dunst had to abide by the rules of an etiquette book that Coppola had given to them to help them get into character. That meant handling their billowing skirts in very specific ways, and never ever showing their ankles.

But in between takes, all bets were off. During last month’s Cannes Film Festival, where The Beguiled premiered to rave reviews, Dunst and Fanning recalled being devilishly inspired when craft services began serving their drinks in red Solo cups. Things got pretty NSFW when the actresses paid homage to Girls Gone Wild by flashing their ankles on set.

“They were all just girls being saucy, but like the 1860s version of it,” Coppola said of their on set shenanigans. “That was probably the fun of making the movie…because I knew I could make it with these guys.”

Dunst even joked that we might get some of those outtakes as DVD extras. But since DVD extras aren’t really a thing anymore, we were left wondering if we’d ever get to see The Beguiled girls do their interpretation of 1860’s-era Girls Gone Wild.

On Monday, Dunst made our dreams come true when she posted a snippet of her and Fanning frolicking on set, red solo cups in hand, and flashing their ankles.

“Girls Gone Wild 1863 #thebeguiled #freetheankle,” read the caption.

The next day, James Corden went one step further when he cut together even more footage of Dunst and Fanning being scandalous, much to the delight of Coppola, who was his guest for the evening. The Beguiled opens wide on July 23, however there’s no word yet on we can expect Girls Gone Wild: Kindly but Possibly Sinister Babes of the Civil War on VHS.
