When people think about Lamborghini, they usually think about incredibly fast cars driven by European billionaires as they drive their model girlfriends around in the Alps. So it seems like it would be weird for a company mostly associated with exotic sports cars to suddenly branch out into the SUV world. But that’s exactly what they’re going to do.
Lamborghini announced that it will begin producing SUVs and they’re expecting them to hit the market in 2018. In slightly surprising news, they say they’re planning to sell 3,000 SUVs a year once they come out, which is more than they sell each year of their other models.
The picture above is taken from Lamborghini’s “Urus” concept in 2012, when they originally announced plans to begin producing SUVs. While Lamborghini hasn’t said whether their SUVs will be an updated version of the Urus or something completely different, we can still look at their original plans to imagine what rich dudes will be driving around Beverly Hills in four years.
This is not the first time Lamborghini has been in the SUV business. The company previously manufactured the LM002 from 1986 to 1993. Here’s what it looked like:
It looks like a Hummer had sex with a Jeep Wrangler and produced a SUV child.
Whether Lamborghini follows through on the Urus or creates something totally different, let’s hope it doesn’t look like the LM002.
