Every few years, Ludacris re-enters the news cycle, when the Fast and The Furious franchise adds another film to its roster. So with the release of* The Fate of The Furious* just days away, it’s time to welcome the former Atlanta rap hit machine back to the forefront of culture, if only for a brief moment. And, in true Luda fashion, he’s dojng everything he can to make it count.
On Tuesday, Ludacris dropped the Eif Rivera-directed video for his song “Vitamin D,” a serviceable, Sisqo-sampling single featuring Ty Dolla $ign. But in a crowded hip-hop landscape that just saw the release of Drake’s juggernaut mixtape More Life, and Friday’s incoming Kendrick Lamar heater DAMN., don’t expect Luda’s new single to make much noise on the charts.
The video is a different story. Over the course of his career, Luda has always been one of the funniest rappers in the game, and he showcases that trademark sense of humor here with some strategically placed CGI. The computer generated chiseled chest and six pack not only look ridiculous in the best way possible, but they’re also Ludacris’ way of acknowledging how ludicrous (see what we did there?) the braggadocio in rap videos can get, especially when said rapper is way past his prime.
