Not everyone is excited about Universal’s upcoming biopic Blond Ambition, which chronicles the early years of Madonna’s life and career. In an Instagram post that has since been deleted, Madge shot down the veracity of the script while calling out its writer.
“Why would Universal Studios want to make a movie about me based on a script that is all lies???” she wrote. “The writer Elyse Hollander should write for the tabloids.” The script—which follows a young Madonna’s exploits in New York City as she tries to break into the music industry—recently topped Hollywood’s Black List, the annual ranking of the industry’s buzziest unproduced scripts. But the positive word of mouth wasn’t enough to stop Madonna from laying waste to the project.
“Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society,” she wrote.
According to those who’ve read Blond Ambition, the script portrays Madonna as a callous and calculated woman who’ll stop at nothing to become a star. At one point, she tells her then-boyfriend Jellybean Benitez that she aborted their unborn child. “I won’t have to choose between my career and a family now,“ she says. "And that’s how I want it.”
The film is still in the nascent stages of development, so there’s no telling how Madonna will react, or what legal muscle she’ll flex, once a director and star become attached. But based on the Instagram below—in which she calls out producer Brett Ratner and Hollander as well—it won’t be pretty.
