In America, when we think of good looking presidents, we think of John F. Kennedy or Ronald Reagan or Millard Fillmore. And unfortunately most of the people who campaign to lead this great country are all pushing retirement age (or more, looking at you, John McCain). However, international politicians are far more attractive than anyone the good ol’ US of A has ever produced. Just take a look at Polish politician Magdalena Ogorek:
Ogorek is 35-years-old and holds a doctorate in history and authored a book called The Polish Templars: Myths and Reality. This month Poland’s Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) nominated her as their candidate for the upcoming Polish presidential election.
The political party’s leader said they choose Ogorek because, “She is a symbol of the opening up of Polish politics to a young European generation of Polish men and women. She is a symbol of national unity, and not the representative or head of any of Poland’s warring tribes or political parties.” We can definitely see the appeal she’d have with young male voters.
Ogorek isn’t just a historian. She previously worked as a TV presenter and soap opera star, so she’s definitely got the charisma voters look for as a president. She also worked as a consultant for Poland’s national bank from 2012 to 2014, so she’s probably got a solid understanding of how finances work.
Unfortunately, it appears Ogorek’s chances of winning the election are not very good. According to Dr. Krzysztof Jasiewicz, a professor at Washington and Lee University and an expert on Polish politics, the incumbent president has an approval rating north of 70% and “only a disaster could prevent his outright victory.” In addition, he says Ogorek’s credentials aren’t too impressive for someone running for president and the SLD “has never collected more than 14% of the popular vote in any national elections.”
So while Ogorek will probably not be making any visits to NATO meetings or United Nations conferences any time soon, that probably won’t stop men from keeping up-to-date with all the latest campaign news.
Isn’t democracy great?
