Last night, we witnessed a wonderful thing that could only happen in 2016. A Twitter user with the handle @amaykebin tweeted a screenshot of Gucci Mane’s Instagram story in which the rapper could clearly be seen clutching a copy of Gladwell’s book David and Goliath. This may provide further evidence for the small group of conspiracy theorists who believe that Gucci Mane has been cloned by the government. But are we really that surprised at a rap trailblazer feeding his artistic savvy with some robust social-science reading?

Gladwell shared the tweet on his own page with the caption “Gucci Mane, ladies and gentlemen. This might be the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.” Gucci in turn took note of that tweet: “I read blink, outliers, and tipping point you my favorite author.” As this very article is being written, they are still exchanging kind words.

By Gladwell’s logic, Mane would easily have had 10,000 hours to become a master at anything he set his mind to: He emerged from prison several months ago and just recently got off of house arrest. Many have alleged that he seems to be a new man, and a hefty diet of brainy literature may have provided assistance. Along with consuming good books, Gucci has maintained his status as one of the hardest working men in hip-hop, collaborating with a variety of top-tier rappers and artists.

No word yet on if Gladwell and Gucci will jump on a mixtape together.
