This Week in Sex: Male Sex Toys, Fetishes & Masters of Sex:

Male sex toys

How many sex toys do you own? If you own any at all, you probably wouldn’t talk about it anyway. Over the past few years there has been a major increase in male sex toy sales, but no one is owning up to buying them despite the fact that women have become more open about what’s tickling their fancies. Some believe that the double standard is caused by the stigmas we have surrounding men who buy toys for themselves. “Men don’t talk to their male friends about what sex toys they buy, there’s not that culture in male sexuality,” Sarah Forbes-Roberts, a sex shop owner, told The Globe and Mail. “The irony is we have this culture that puts a lot of money into satisfying male sexuality with porn, but we’re talking about commercialized images, not men exploring their own bodies in an individual way.” Read the rest of the article on theglobeandmail.com.

What is a sexual fetish?

When news broke this week that feet are the least sexy part of the female body, we had to stop and check a few other sources. We always assumed that foot fetishes were pretty common! We’re sure that there have always been feet worshipers, but it wasn’t until the late 19th century that the term “sexual fetish” was coined by psychiatrists to explain the various ways we experience our desires. The term was soon used to explain the act of fixating sexually on nonliving objects or body parts. Fetishes have a rich history, dating back decades before the 19 century; AlterNet delves into what exactly makes these odd sexual fetishes tick. Read it on alternet.org

Showtime's Masters of Sex

Showtime surprised everyone when they decided to release the first episode of their new show Masters of Sex two weeks earlier than anticipated. This month’s issue of Playboy Magazine reprinted highlights from past interviews with the real Dr. William Masters and his associate Virginia Johnson about everything from the importance of sex to settling the score on the age-old question, “Is bigger really better?” Check the pilot out on Showtime, and after you’re done read our interview, “The Scientists of Sex.”

Curated Sex Kits

Have you ever wondered what you’d get if you ordered a curated sex kit? Writer Rose Surnow took it upon herself to test out five mail-order sex kits so we don’t have to. “I tested sex boxes from five different companies, with help from my (now ex) boyfriend John, as well as a pinch-hitting new partner,” writes Surnow. “Read on to learn which boxes made us laugh, which caused a breakup, and which cleaned my sinuses.” Check it out on nymag.com
