“Pretty much everyone’s swearing. We just don’t all prefer the same words.”

That’s the conclusion drawn by British linguist Jack Grieve, who has been tweeting out maps that detail which curse words are most popular based on geographic location.

The maps were created using tweets sent out between 2013 and 2014. And in all fairness, Twitter users don’t perfectly line up with the general population. Even so, it’s pretty interesting to think about why the word “asshole” is so popular in the Northeast, but shunned in the Southeast. And why in the hell is “fuckboy” one of the fastest growing terms of 2014?

At any rate, don’t be an asshole motherfucker. Click here to see all of the maps via Jack Grieve’s Twitter account.
