From The Comedians of the Comedy tour to John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show to her own specials like The Special Special Special!, Maria Bamford has formed a reputation among comedy nerds as one of the most fearless and inventive comics out there. Her sets are whirlwind, stream-of-consciousness journeys into her musings on everything from relationships to boring office jobs to her own struggles with mental illness, and now she finally gets the chance to channel all of that brilliance into a TV series.
Variety reports that Bamford has teamed up with Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz to produce Lady Dynamite, a new 13-episode comedy series. The show is billed as “the story of a woman who loses — and then finds — her shit,“ and if it’s anything like Bamford’s stand up sets, it’ll likely be full of wonderfully odd moments that blend insight with unrepentant goofiness.
Lady Dynamite will debut on Netflix sometime soon, joining other original comedy hits on the service like Bojack Horseman and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
