A massive, bizarre creature–also known as wolffish–was reeled in by Hirasaka Hiroshi, a Japanese fisherman earlier this month. Hiroshi is well-known for a career of making unusual catches (and then eating them).

Caught off the coast of the island of Hokkaido, the fish is deep-sea dweller which typically feeds on smaller creatures on the ocean floor. Hiroshi tells the Daily Star that the fish was “super cool” and “was worth flying to [Hokkaido] twice within three months.”

Hiroshi’s catch was more than 6 feet long. The fish’s proximity to the Fukushima Daiichi power plant meltdown has people speculating that the fish’s size is related to the nuclear disaster.
