When we last saw Dev — Aziz Ansari’s onscreen proxy in his charming Netflix comedy Master of None — he was ditching his life as a New York City bon vivant, to pursue the fine art of making pasta in Italy. It was, if anything, a drastic about face for a show that relied heavily on the idiosyncratic ebbs and flows of the city to drive its story forward. Fans were left wondering: Would season two show any of Dev’s exploits overseas, or would it pick up with him returning to New York as an Indian Mario Batali?

Now, we have our answer. In the just-released first trailer for season two, sunlit shots of the bucolic Italian countryside are spliced together with shots of the more familiar terrain of NYC. According to the official synopsis. Dev does indeed return home “to take on challenges in his personal and family life, a new career opportunity, and a complex, developing relationship with someone very meaningful to him.”

If you follow Ansari on Instagram (and if you don’t, you really should), you’ll know that he spent his summer eating his way through Italy, and was often times joined by Eric Wareheim, who plays his BFF Arnold. It’s clear now that their social media exploits weren’t just a play for all the likes. They were busy shooting scenes for the upcoming season, as well. Now that’s how you score a free trip.

Master of None returns to Netflix on May 12. Watch the trailer above.
