Donald Trump isn’t the only conservative in Rep. Maxine Waters’ crosshairs. The outspoken California congresswoman said that both Trump and Bill O’Reilly should be in jail their crimes against women during an appearance on MSNBC’s All in With Chris Hayes Wednesday.
Her comments come in the wake of Trump’s defense of O’Reilly, after it was revealed that the Fox News figurehead and his network paid $13 million to muzzle five women who had accused him of sexual harassment.
“It shouldn’t be in America that you can sexually harass women and then buy your way out of it because you’re rich,” Waters said. “If they continue to do this in the way that they have done they need to go to jail.”
Waters then turned her attention to our sexual-harassment-enabler-in-chief. Trump had called O’Reilly “a good person” and added that he “shouldn’t have settled” with his accusers.
“Well, it’s coming out of the mouth of a man who has said horrible things about women,” Waters said. “Don’t forget he talked about grabbing women in their private parts and because he was important, he could get away with it, and so they are two of a kind and so I’m not surprised that he stood up and tried to defend Bill O’Reilly.”
This isn’t the first time that Waters and O’Reilly’s paths have crossed. Last week, O’Reilly felt the heat after an appearance on Fox and Friends in which he “joked” that he couldn’t hear a word Maxine Waters said because he was “looking at the James Brown wig.” O’Reilly later apologized, but his apology rang hollow.
It’s no wonder Waters seems to be relishing in the host’s recent troubles. “It’s catching up with them and you have over 30 advertisers who are taking away their advertising,” she said of the ad hemorrhaging at The O’Reilly Factor. “They’re not wanting to do business with them anymore because of the way that they have created this record of sexual harassment.
Maxine Waters 2020, anyone?
