A company in London announced this week that it has created the world’s first hangover-preventing snack. Aptly called “Hangover Cured”, the product is a “meat treat” of cured pork.
The producers of the snack, Serious Pig, say the snack is “revolutionary” because its design is packed with protein and formulated with chili and ginger.
Nutritionist Angela Dowden had high praise for the snack in the company’s press release. “Nibbling on high quality meat protein at the same time as drinking is a really good idea as it’s rich in the amino acids you need to make neurotransmitters (messengers that transmit signals throughout the body),” she says. “Alcohol interferes with the levels of these neurotransmitters, which is one of the reasons we can feel bad after overindulging.”
Unfortunately, a nutritionist being paid by the company whose product she is promoting probably isn’t the most reliable source of substantiated information. While it’s a good idea not to drink on an empty stomach, salty, high-fat cured pork is probably not the healthiest option.
